This influencer caught on camera is in hot water with her followers. Kajal Kiran, who has over 121,000 followers on Instagram, has apologized to fans and animal lovers everywhere after being forced to admit she’d kicked a dog — and filmed it.
According to India Today, the now-deleted footage showed Kiran smiling and laughing as she abused the animal. The video has reportedly been shared on social media, prompting a recent backlash.
“How can you be so insensitive towards these voiceless souls,” wrote on Twitter, Vidit Sharma, founder of Save a Stray, an India-based animal protection organization.
Kiran posted a video on Wednesday expressing her regret for sharing the “cruel act,” which she said happened in the “heat of the moment.”
“I regret my actions and didn’t realize the gravity at that point of time. I vow to not harm any animals,” she indicated.
Her apology message reportedly received over 25,000 comments, many of which have since been hidden, with many threatening to flag her account on Instagram.
She shared two more posts on Wednesday, both of which appear to show her feeding stray dogs. According to Insider, the account also includes more videos of Kiran feeding dogs in an effort to improve her image.
Another animal advocate responded to Sharma’s tweet with images of a Mumbai high court complaint alleging abuse of Kiran. “Everyone is asked to kindly tag @MumbaiPolice to escalate the situation,” they said.
According to the India Express, their government protects dogs under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
